5 Features to Spruce up Your Patio

5 Features to Spruce up Your Patio

Consider these features to bring your patio to life.

A patio is a great part of the home, and one should not underestimate its value to enjoying one’s home. Spending time outdoors is beneficial to one’s mood and health, and enables family and friends to enjoy nature in a pleasant environment. A patio can do more than provide a place to put the outdoor furniture, however. Check out these five features that could enliven your patio design in a new way.

1. Fire Pit

No matter what time of year, a fire pit is always appealing. A place of warmth in the winter, and a heat source for toasting marshmallows in the summer, there’s nothing like a good outdoor fire. Adding a fire pit to your patio design can make these enjoyable activities always available to you and your guests.

2. Sitting Wall

Sitting walls are low structures that can enhance entrances, borders, and sloped areas. They match or complement the patio material; brick, stone, concrete, or a combination are typical. This eliminates the need to place outdoor benches or seating that can become clunky in the space. This permanent fixture defines spaces and invites one to relax. They are different from retaining walls, though, which are designed to keep back soil on a landscaped slope.

3. Lighting

Another way to make your patio more practical and beautiful is to add outdoor lighting. This feature can take many different forms, from string lights to outdoor wall lanterns to LED floor lights. Lighting will make spending time outdoors at night much easier and safer, especially when placed strategically to define borders and pathways. Plus, it gives ambiance.

4. Pergola

Outdoor string lights work best if you have a pergola on your patio. Pergola, made of wood or vinyl, can create a specific area on your patio under which people can dine or lounge. This feature is also excellent for growing vines. If you have a backyard that gets a lot of sun, a pergola can shade out some of that light.

5. Outdoor Kitchen

There’s nothing like eating al fresco and grilling outdoors. One of the most enjoyable activities while the weather is warm, it is possible to achieve in your own backyard with a custom outdoor kitchen. These fixtures can range vastly in design, and be as simple or as complex as one wishes. If any of these ideas strike your fancy, Edwards Lawn & Home is ready to help.
