Mowing your lawn isn’t as simple as just turning on your machine and walking forward. There are many things to know so you are mowing properly and not damaging your grass. Try to cut your grass when it is dry so your mower doesn’t get clogged and you get an even shape on your lawn. Avoid mowing soggy soil as it can damage your wheels and tear up your grass. When mowing, try to cut no more than a third of the grass blades to ensure a healthy lawn. Mow your lawn at least once a week in the spring and fall, and 2-3 times in summer as grass grows at a higher rate.
Keep Your Grass Hydrated and Fed
Like humans, your lawn needs food and water to survive. It is best to water your grass early in the morning because the sun will dry it throughout the day. Only water your lawn during a dry-spell and make sure the water is being soaked into the soil. When shopping for lawn feed, look for fertilizers that are high in nitrogen to offer the best growth. You should fertilize your lawn depending where you live. Feed in the fall and spring if you live in the north and in the spring and summer if you live in the south. It is important to not overfeed your grass because it can cause fungal problems and inhibit growth.
Weed Prevention
Stop weeds before they even start by applying pre-emergent herbicide in the early spring to stop their seeds from sprouting. Follow the directions on the package for proper application to prevent weeds.
