You should use an indoor shutoff valve because it will not freeze compared to an outdoor valve. You then need to drain all water lines especially those connected to refrigerators, sinks, and ice makers. Make sure to leave the drain lines open all winter long to prevent water from freezing.
Clean and Shut Off Appliances
It is critical that you turn off all electrical power units and leave them unplugged throughout the winter. You then should clean out appliances such as your refrigerator and grill and remove all food items. Clean your appliances with mild soap and water and make sure you remove all dirt and debris. Leave your refrigerator and ice maker uncovered during the winter to avoid trapping moisture and damaging your appliances.
